Yevett Word, granddaughter of Dwight Wesley McKay, Sr., at the request of Virginia McKay, has informed us that our member Dwight passed away March 8, 2008, at his home with his family. He was 81 years old. Born May 13, 1926, in Lincoln, Alabama. Dwight was a true Scotsman and was very proud of his Mackay and Scottish heritage. Some of his happiest days were spent attending the Scottish Games around the United States. He loved to play golf and, made many Scottish friends. He was proud to wear the Kilt and to be a member of the Clan Mackay Society.

Dwight joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving in the South Pacific and was discharged in 1946. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1947. He received the Purple Heart from his service in the Korean War. After retiring from the Marines in 1964 he moved back to Lincoln, Alabama. There he went to work for the Civil Service at the Anniston Army Depot and later retired.

He leaves a loving wife, Virginia McKay, and family; daughter, Jeanette M. (Allen) Crow; son, Dwight W. (Melinda) McKay; four grandchildren, Yevett (Charles) Word, Lori (Jerrod) Gaither, Kyle McKay, Braxton McKay; and four great-grandchildren, Westley Word, Maggie Word, Connor Gaither, and Kensley Gaither.
